Northern Pike Fishing Information

It is very important to fully understand what kind of fish your are going after. The reason for this is that your fish will choose which type of tackle, bait, rod, and reel that you will use. The fish I am going to talk about today is the Northern Pike.

This monster of a species can grow to enormous lengths and can eat things almost half its length. Therefore, you are going to need extra strong tackle and equipment. For starters, a heavy action rod combined with a good reel with a smooth drag can help you boat a big Pike. After choosing your pole, it is important to get the right line on the rig as well. I would not go less than 8 pound line and always make sure you have a leader on. From there, just be certain to have a net nearby in case you get a big one.

Now that we addressed the things you need, let us talk about where to fish. While most lakes in the northern parts of the world have pike fishing, not all are created equal. Most have heard of fishing the fly in lakes in Canada, but have never made the trip. I strongly recommend going as it is not that expensive compared to any other type of vacation.

If you cannot get up there, many other places in the United States, Europe, Canada, Asia, and other countries also have the Northern Pike available. Do your research online and try to find a trip that best suits you.
