A Few Hints on Offshore Saltwater Fishing

Offshore saltwater fishing has its own unique charm and makes for an unforgettable adventure. With high speed fishing boats equipped with latest navigational gadgets, searching for offshore fish now is quicker and safer than ever. Even the fishing equipment has undergone a major change, as it has become lighter, more sturdy and easier to handle.

However, you will still need to learn a few skills if you are a novice, in order to prepare for offshore fishing. You can hire boats with equipment, and people to help, to go out fishing with you in offshore waters, but you still have to plan things out.

First, decide where to go. Some of the best offshore fishing spots include:

1. Galveston, Texas offers a good place to fish. You can catch fish year round. Between March and May you can catch a lot of smaller fish but it's in the fall when you get the opportunity to hook a large fish, though they will number less. You will find the fish near wrecks, reefs and sea-mounts-even area around oil platforms.

2. Destin, Florida is a small town but one of the largest fishing centers around. Fish can be found year round here as well, but the best season is from May to November. You can bait around weed-liners, the rocky underwater structure, sea-mounts, drop-offs and ledges. Whale sharks can also be fished in August and September.

3. Key West, Florida offers ample opportunity for offshore fishing. While small fish will be found April through May, for bigger fish October and November are the better months. Slightly rough waters and moderate ocean temperature provides the ideal conditions for fishing.

4. Oregon Inlet, North Carolina is another great spot, June through September. Fish can be found along the fathom curve, in the Gulf Stream, or toward the northeast area. Calm weather provides a good opportunity to spot the fish.

5. Point Pleasant, New Jersey offers great fishing beginning in July and along the canyons, though fish can be found throughout the year. If you see dolphins and weeds in a particular spot, his is an indication of fish nearby.

Wherever you plan to go offshore fishing, just remember to keep a sharp lookout for live bait in the sea-and follow them! The big fish follow them for food.
